      Unit 1. Academic English
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Introduce the basics of Academic English.
      -Clarify the most frequent academic and professional terms used on campus.
      -See Academic English in real contexts.
      -Use Academic English to explain our personal circumstance.
      -Make our own preliminary search on Academic English.

      Unit 2. Fiber Optics
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Determine how to write definitions of technical devices.
      -Listen to a lecture with the basics of fiber optics and check the language functions used.
      -Listen to part of a TED talk about fiber optic cable and check the use of prepositions and dimensions.
      -Explain the physical side of a communications process.

      Unit 3. Devices: 5G
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Review the history of mobile communications and the word formation of acronyms and compounds.
      -Check the vocabulary of 5G devices in use.
      -Deal with question/answer models to elicit information about 5G technology.
      -Search for real information about the same topic and arrange it as required.

      Unit 4. Data Centers
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Explore the lexical field related with data.
      -Listen to a description of data centers and deal with its content.
      -Discuss the availability of data centers, using comparison and contrast expressions.
      -Make a comparative search on telecommunications data management/storage companies

      Unit 5. Innovations (Introduction to Oral Presentation Skills)
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Introduce the engineering activity of prototyping.
      -See the basics about prototypi.
      -Elicit the basic rules for oral presentation skills.
      -Describe a first attempt for a prototype.

      Unit 6. Cybersecurity
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Use the vocabulary related to cybersecurity.
      -Read and complete exercises about mobile security solutions.
      -Build question-answer sequences about mobile security alerts and procedures.
      -Write a chronological sequence of events related to security issues.

      Unit 7. CV and Job Interview
      In this unit we are going to:
      -See different resources (samples, templates) for a CV or resume.
      -Produce an initial self-introduction.
      -Learn about the most frequent questions in job interviews and practise orally with them.
      -Write a CV.

      Unit 8. Smart Cities
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Learn the vocabulary related to smart cities.
      -Read and talk about smart cities apps in relation to the COVID-19 crisis.
      -Write about an app solution for COVID-19 on campus.

      Unit 9. Academic Writing
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Observe the basic rules for academic writing.
      -Watch some videos to enlarge the views about this topic.
      -Write a piece in academic style.

      Unit 10. Microwaves
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Check the language uses, pronunciation and useful vocabulary (academic and technical) that students have been learning throughout the course, with the help of the context of “microwaves / electromagnetic radiation”.
      -Let students elicit the linguistic items they consider relevant for their own needs through a video on electromagnetic radiation.

      Unit 11. Telecommunications Pronunciation
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Use very basic information that students command about telecommunications systems, so as to elicit some pronunciation rules for keywords from their academic field.
      -Practise word endings for verbs and plurals more specifically.

      Unit 12. Transistors
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Hold a content-based simulated class (so as to deal with technical English in the most possible practical way, in context, and without stopping at linguistic issues), based on transistors, divided into: previous questionnaire (1), lecture (2) and discussion (3).
      -Write a forum sequence of experts.

      Unit 13. Satellites and Smartphones
      In this unit we are going to:
      -Hold a content-based simulated class (so as to deal with technical English in the most possible practical way, in context, and without stopping at linguistic issues), based on satellites and smartphones, divided into: previous questionnaire (1), lecture (2) and discussion (3).
      -Write a forum sequence of experts

       

      Practice

      For the practice sessions, students will be given short texts about the topics listed above, and they will prepare different oral activities with a view to intensive speaking practice. Some of these activities will be: taboo, comment of slides/diagrams, collocations, definitions, roleplay situations, join/end sentences, explain processes, compare and contrast, distinguish similar sounds, use and pronounce keywords appropriately.
