    • Course Description

This course deals with a concrete part of specialized languages, namely, English for Telecommunications Engineering. It offers a double approach, both from the domain of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and EAP (English for Academic Purposes). From the former, the correct, in-context technical language acquisition and use are emphasized. The latter focuses on the praxis of language functions pertaining to academic environments, such as oral presentations delivery and formal writing in research genres. In the two cases, the four skills of language learning are introduced (oral and written comprehension and expression), as well as associated transversal abilities (individual and teamwork, self-learning strategies, collaborative learning, analytical skills, and autonomy).

      Objectives

By the end of the course, the students must be able to:

      1. Identify the technical and academic lexicon of their major.
      2. Make a correct use, either oral or written, of the language functions associated with technical contexts (academic and professional) related with their major.
      3. Develop individual and groupwork abilities, assisted by self-learning tools.
      4. Adopt self-strategies (innovation and creativity) to their own personal and team contributions to the activities proposed in the course.
      5. Make an adequate use of IC technologies when applied to the ESP learning.
